‘Fresh fruit on the Beach’ Acrylic on canvas - 26 x 35"
Working on this painting on and off for 2 months in Puerto Vallarta. I took this photo last year and this is my second attempt at painting this cool looking guy who sells fresh fruit on hot sunny days. My hat goes out to those who work, day in and day out, on the beach selling souvenirs and refreshments.
'Going Home' Acrylic on masonite board - 12 x 12"
Finally finished my painting of this graceful charming elderly lady as she walks past and over the Lazaro Cardenas bridge on a hot summer afternoon! I have really been enjoying capturing pictures that showcase the moments in one’s life. Painting these moments fills me with emotions more than any other subject matter i have done. It moves me and allows me to feel the joy, struggles, and emotion they are experiencing!
'Looking At You' Acrylic on masonite board - 12 x 16"
A close-up of my pelican friend who hangs out at a local restaurant on the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta. They say he is a youngster waiting around for leftovers.. adorable! The challenge with this painting was trying to figure out how to finish the feather details. I ended up using white to create the lines, letting it dry for a few days then doing a wash over with various colours. I’m very happy with the final outcome and will need to consider this approach in my future paintings.
'Waiting For You’ Acrylic on masonite board - 12x16"
This painting reminds me of fun times on the beach enjoying the cool breeze and company of friends. This scene was captured on Playa Camarones in Puerto Vallarta.
'Here I am!' Acrylic on masonite board - 12 x 12"
I tried to create this painting to reflect the personal side of these unique birds. They entertain us at the beach. Flying free and diving into the ocean for their meals. They have definitely caught my attention.
'Music Man' Acrylic on masonite board - 12 x 12"
The music man who plays for money most mornings while we enjoy our coffee at Dee’s in Puerto Vallarta. He has such a great voice and i love the songs he sings. I explored a new approach on this painting to make the focal point stand out. Once painted I applied a light sand paper to the entire painting. If you look closely you can see how it made the background look faded and/or distressed. I then re-painted the focus areas being the musician and bench to highlight key areas, re-defined the lines and attempted to make it stand out from the background! I really do like the outcome and will definitely use this technique again.
